About the Friends of the Byes
The Friends of the Byes are a volunteer group established in 2010 promoting biodiversity. This is achieved through working with councils, National Trust and local community organisations. Achievements include creating a community orchard and introducing “Green corridors”
Everything we do relies on volunteers
We rely on people giving their free time to help. We are always looking for new members and have a variety of volunteer positions which may be of interest. We are a friendly enthusiastic group and welcome new volunteers

General Volunteering Activities
Byes Ecology Survey and Monitoring Group Meet every Wednesday morning 9.00am-11.00 am no experience necessary training and equipment provided.
Aim:
The Byes Ecology Survey and Monitoring Group aims to understand the ecology of the Byes in Sidmouth.
Objectives:
To survey and monitor the Byes building an ongoing data record of species, populations, habitats and seasonal behaviours that will provide valuable trends and insights.
To use evidence-based Information to inform Byes management decisions and improvement programmes.
To promote citizen science research as a valuable approach to gaining knowledge and wider understanding of the ecology of the Byes.
Every Saturday morning 10.00 am–12 midday– no experience necessary, all support and equipment provided.
Marketing
We need people to help promote our work and explain what we are doing, this is via the website, facebook and noticeboards.
Fundraising
We receive no financial support for the work we do and rely on donations and grants. If you have skills or interests in this area we would love to hear from you.
Administration
We need admin support behind the scenes for meetings, maintaining jobs lists and keeping members up to date.
Education
Supporting our work by sharing this unique environment with schools and community groups.
